About the STUDIO
The Bar Method San Mateo is a boutique fitness studio offering barre classes for students of all levels. The signature method uses your own body weight, the ballet barre and a few props to create a transformative workout that results in long, lean sculpted muscles. Not only does it reshape your entire body, but it allows you to channel your inner strength and leave class feeling strong, confident and poised. Highly-trained instructors customize the exercises to ensure they are safe and effective for any age and every body, including modifications for pregnant women and students with injuries. Our staff and community are here to support you from the moment you walk through the door.
The Bar Method San Mateo is located in the Crystal Springs Shopping Village, which hosts over 50 shops, services, and restaurants. The studio is located behind Starbucks and features a large workout room, childcare room, retail boutique, and a spacious locker area. We are open 7 days a week with classes throughout the day.

Noreen Dante discovered The Bar Method in 2002. She grew up watching her mother hosting yoga classes in the dining room with friends, setting an example of women with poise and strength. She was a competitive swimmer and discovered her joy of yoga as an adult. Noreen loves how The Bar Method combines strengthening with grace to deliver a fun and effective full body workout. A Bar Method instructor for 15 years, she opened one of the first franchise studios! When not at the studio you’ll find Noreen eating great food with friends and spending time exploring the outdoors in the Bay Area.
Laura Santora began her love affair with the The Bar Method in 2002 after her sister introduced her to the workout. A Palo Alto native, she grew up dancing ballet and always dreamed of involving dance in her life in some way. Trained by Bar Method founder, Burr Leonard, Laura has been teaching The Bar Method for 15 years and loves helping women of all fitness levels achieve their goals. Laura, her husband, Francis, and toddler son, Michael Philip, love biking around town and enjoying many of the wonderful things the Bay Area has to offer.
Walk-in spots are available on a 1st come first serve basis. We recommend reserving classes in advance to guarantee your spot in class. Reservations are available online up to 30 minutes in advance. Reservations can be made anytime via phone or in person. You can reserve one class time per day and be waitlisted for an additional spot.
If a class is full you can add your name to the waitlist online. You will automatically be added to class up to 1 hour prior to class. You will be sent an email confirming your change in status. Being moved off the waitlist into class means you are in class and therefore subject to the cancellation policy. You are responsible for cancelling your class if you are unable to attend.
If you cannot attend class, cancel your class online, on The Bar Method app, or call the studio to avoid being charged for a no-show. Early morning classes (6:00, 6:30, and 7:00 AM) require cancellation 12 hours in advance to avoid a penalty. All classes that begin after 7 AM require cancellation 1 hour in advance.
If you are using a class package, a no-show or cancellation after the above cutoff window results in a loss of that class. If you are using a membership package, your account will be charged $10.
First time students may not enter a class late. Arriving 10 minutes early is highly recommended.
Returning students may enter up to, but not after, 10 minutes into class.
Upon entering class, lift your knees 40 times to warm up before joining in.
Please wear exercise pants that cover the knees (or wear compression/bike shorts under above-knee shorts), a top that cover the midriff, and socks that cover the entire foot.
Students may bring their own socks from home, or purchase Bar Method socks with sticky grips at the studio.
Please do not bring glass or uncapped drinks into the exercise studios. Capped water bottles are allowed.
Please do not bring cell phones into the exercise studio. Lockers are provided with keys and we ask that you leave your phone in a locker along with the rest of your belongings.
Please do not chew gum in the exercise studio.
We provide towels without charge. Hand towels are available outside of Studio A, and bath towels are available in the shower area. Please leave your towel in the hamper on your way out.
Disruptive students may be asked to leave. Please be respectful of fellow students and your instructor.
Pregnant clients must provide the front desk with a note from their doctor allowing them to take strengthening and stretching classes.
It is strongly encouraged that all pregnant clients take at least one pre-natal class before taking a standard class. We also recommend that pregnant clients avoid Level 2 and Bar Move classes.
Pregnant students can opt to take the first half of the class (which focuses on the arms and legs) for half price.
No clients are admitted before they reach 13 years of age.
Clients under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please notify front desk staff and instructors of any illness or injury that may impact your ability to exercise. In some cases, a doctor’s note may be required to allow you to take class.
If you have a cold or anything else that may be contagious we ask that you do not attend class.
Childcare costs $10 per child and is available M-W-F. Check our online schedule for childcare times.
We welcome children 3 months to 7 years of age.
Reservations can be made 2 weeks in advance and are limited. Call the studio to reserve your child’s spot at 650-573-3330.
If you receive the answering machine, clearly indicate your full name, the day and time of the class you plan to attend, the name and age of your child and your phone number. We will return your call to confirm.
Childcare drop-off is up to 10 minutes before class.
Childcare pick-up is no later than 5 minutes after class ends.
We have a 1 hour cancellation policy – call up to 1 hour before class to cancel at no charge. Otherwise you will be charged for a childcare session.
