How to Prepare for Your First BARRE CLASS
Each studio is adhering to state guidelines; as restrictions change, reach out to the studio you plan to attend if you are unsure of the most recent policies.
We suggest leggings or yoga pants, a breathable top that cover your midriff, and socks that cover your whole foot (grip socks are best!). Shop our online store to find the latest fashions!
Arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled class time and head to the front desk. From there, our staff will check you in, answer any questions you may have, and introduce you to your instructor.
You’ll meet your Bar Method instructor who will help you get set up for class. Share with them a brief overview of physical history including injuries, pregnancy, or areas of concern.
No Experience REQUIRED
We welcome students of any experience level. Everyone and every body type is welcome — women, men, all ages, expecting mothers, physical therapy patients — our members come from all walks of life and have various abilities, goals, and histories with exercise. The majority of our students did not have a dance or prior barre experience when they walked through our doors for the first time. Starting with your first class, each class thereafter will be customized with modifications and challenge options. You’ll learn barre exercises and techniques and be inspired to power through challenging moments.
The Class DESIGN
Every Bar Method class starts with a warm-up that includes leg lifts, a series of upper-body exercises and push-ups in the middle of the room. The lower body challenge takes place at the barre with sequences of thigh and seat work. Core exercises on the floor round out class followed by a final stretch. Our method predominantly uses your own bodyweight for resistance along with a few simple props: free weights, floor mats and a ball. Students are continually challenged with endless variations of each exercise timed to the beat of the music. You will be able to work within your individual limits while also receiving encouragement to challenge yourself!

It was created under the guidance of physical therapists to ensure each exercise is powerful and effective, yet safe and sustainable for all students. The Bar Method instructors are known and loved for their charisma, their attentive observation, and mastery of anatomy, technique, and form. Instructors undergo lengthy, rigorous training before earning their certification and continue their education through courses and annual certification exams.
